Nights Away in Chester-le-Street

If you are a new volunteer within your section, you may not be aware that we have some excellent facilities within our district where you can hold nights away activities with your section.

Our venues that can facilitate nights away within Chester-le-Street District are:

Sleepover bus (with 12 camp beds)

On site kitchen, outside BBQ area and Explorer Den.

On site activities can also be booked for the climbing wall, bouldering wall, artificial caving complex, tree climbing, crate stacking, archery, air rifle shooting, tomahawk throwing, campfire, soft archery/plastic tomahawks, catapults, backwoods activities and lawn games.

 

This secure site has recently been updated and provides 50% discounted bookings for Scout Groups in Chester-le-Street.

Great Lumley Scouts

 

 

 

 

Sterling Hall, Front Street, Great Lumley, County Durham, DH3 4JE

 

 

Facilities for sleepovers (hall and meeting room)

On site kitchen, outside BBQ area and artificial turfed activity area. A large screen is in the upstairs meeting room and pop up tents can be booked for indoors, segregation or a camping feel for younger sections.

On site activities can also be booked for soft archery, plastic tomahawks, computer based/ tablet activities (max 15), fire pit and lawn games.

 

Usually £50 per night to cover utility costs. For Scout groups, this includes any on site equipment requested.

Waldridge Fell Scouts

 

Adjacent to Newker School, Waldridge Road, Chester-le-Street, County Durham, DH2 3AB

Facilities for small patrol camps or small section camps.

Small on site kitchen and campfire area. A screen is in the hall.

Only a 5-10 minute walk to Chester-le-Street Railway Station.

A small donation can be agreed with the Scout Group to cover any costs incurred.

If you have not got access to a suitable nights away permit holder, then we have a Nights Away Assessor based in our district, Adam Wilson, who is happy to talk through the assessment process with you nights.away@chesterlestreetscouts.org.uk

If you have not yet build up enough knowledge and experience to be assessed for a nights away permit, you can contact tony.brewis@chesterlestreetscouts.org.uk as our Programme Team Leader who can support you in matching you to a nights away permit holder for your event and in mentoring you in your nights away development. We also recommend that you familiarise yourself with the Nights Away Scout publication.

On site activities can also be booked for crate stacking, tree climbing, The Cube (high ropes challenges), archery, air rifle shooting, tomahawk throwing, catapults, atlatl spear throwing, backwoods skills, cavebus, pond dipping, toboggan run (squirrels, beavers and cubs), soft archery/plastic tomahawks, frisbee golf and team building activities. 

 

Operated by Durham Scouts, this county campsite and adventure centre is used by Scouting and other organisations

Indoor Centre including dormitories.

On site activities can also be booked for crate stacking, tree climbing, archery, soft archery/plastic tomahawks, lawn games, orienteering and team building activities. Extensive games store on request. Campfire circle and alter fires available. 45 minute walk to the beach.

Operated by South Tyneside Scouts, this district campsite is used by Scouting and other organisations. When the building is booked, it is usual to have the whole site reserved for you.
