Autumn/Winter Term

Scout Incident Hike – A massive thank you everyone, who took part in our annual Scout Incident Hike. This year the Scouts hiked a route from Waldridge Village Hall to 1st Burnmoor Scout HQ stopping off at six incidents along the way. As usual our Explorers were fantastic at managing these bases/incidents and keeping the Scouts motivated as they pasted through. Every Scout team finished the course with the defending champions 1st Waldridge taking first place for the second year in a row.

Beaver and Cub fun day at Herrington Park – It was great to see a lot of Beavers and Cubs from our district come out to have a hike around Herrington with some fun activities to try along the way. Thanks to everyone who came and to our Explorer and Scout volunteers who looked after the activities, but especially to our District Chairman Michael Winn for organising this event.

Confido “In the Jungle”– What an amazing experience, it was great to see that the weather didn’t dampen, or should I say muddy, anyone’s spirits and every young person I saw seemed to be having the best time. It was fantastic meeting so many of our young people while volunteering on the Cube and having a catch up with some amazing volunteers from across the county on an evening.

With autumn nights well underway and winter around the corner its refreshing to still be getting Activity notifications and Nights away notifications. This goes to show our young people have a fantastic scouting experience all year round.

Upcoming Events

Christingle – We are well into winter term now so it’s about time I announced the dates and times for Christingle. Will be changing venue this year to St Mary & St Cuthbert`s Church, Church Chare. Christingle will be held on Tuesday 5th of December to start at 6.30pm and finish at 7.30pm. This will be a first for me as Lead Volunteer for Scouting in Chester-le-Street, so I look forward to seeing you all there with your Christingles.

I will also be attending Chester-le-Streets Remembrance Day parade on Sunday the 12th November. This is the first Parade in Chester-le-Street I have attended since I was a Cub, so I am very much looking forward to this one.

Some PROVISIONAL dates for county events 2024. (These will be confirmed on the county website)

  • County Awards 3rd of February 2024
  • Geoffrey Gorden Cup 22nd-24th March 2024

I simply want to say thank you to every one of you who gives up their time to volunteer in Scouting in Chester-le-Street. It’s been a steep learning curve for me this year but with a group of volunteers this good, Scouting in Chester-le-Street is amazing.

THANK YOU
