New Year, New DC!

Posted on 2nd January 2023 by Tony Brewis

Hi All I hope you have all had a fantastic Christmas and New Year!I am honoured and humbled to be selected to succeed Greg and lead the amazing volunteers of Chester le Street Scouts.Greg Piskosz has been such and inspiration to Scouting in Chester le Street and the district would not be in the strong position it is without the hard work of all the volunteers under Greg’s leadership. Greg has left me with some rather large shoes to fill, and I will “do my best” to rise to the challenge.I’m going to try and get around as much as I can over the next couple of months to meet everyone, especially those who I haven’t had a chance to speak to in the past. So please do not be shocked if I randomly show up to your meetings, and if you are having an exec, please let me know so I can pop in and meet the people who are working hard behind the scenes.I have taken over the dc@chesterlestreetscouts.org.uk email so it’s business as usual in terms of NANs and Activity notifications, etc. Please do email me with anything you are up to and I`ll try to pop in and meet as many of you as I can.  Census is just around the corner. Hopefully with the use of OSM this isn’t the pain that it used to be. The numbers are not the be all and end all of what we do in Chester le Street but we do need to get it done promptly to avoid any late charges. Anyone who is struggling with census please contact me and I`ll arrange help.Between the training team and myself we will be looking at restarting the training drop-in sessions. This will hopefully make training within Chester le Street more accessible and give Leaders and Supporters more opportunity to complete their training.I will be looking at organising some informal meetings with GSLs in the near future, just to give me a clearer view of where we are as a district and where we can help, support and improve.I will be attending the Scout District Patrol Leaders’ Weekend – 2pm Saturday 21/01/2023 to 2pm Sunday 22/01/2023. If you haven’t already, please invite those Scouts who you feel have current leadership potential (via OSM). There is no need to provide leaders, although they are most welcome, but I look forward seeing those of you that are there.I am keen to get started in this role and hopefully continue to build on the fantastic work that we already do in Chester le Street Scouts, across all our sections. I look forward to meeting and working with volunteers from all over the district and hopefully together we can continue and improve on  what we do, which is amazing.Photo of Andrew, the new District Commissioner and Lead Volunteer for Chester le StreetAndrew PineDistrict Commissioner/Lead VolunteerChester le Street Scouts
